Foo Fighter's Concert

Okay, this is a really late post considering this concert happened Mar 28th. For some reason, I just couldn't stop and write about it even though it was such an amazing experience. Props to Ryan for getting us some kick ass seats. I put up the setlist near the bottom for fun.

Its been stated repeatedly that the Foo Fighters are my favorite band and there really isn't any reason to go over. But I know that everyone that went had an unbelievable time. One thing that seperates Dave Grohl from others is his ability to engage the crowd. While he does use the rock cliches, there is this genuineness that comes off that is so appealing. Its really evident that the concert is about everyone having a good time. Its not something righteous like "being about the music" or anything . Its about being fucking loud and having a blast.

Setlist:

Let It Die
The Pretender
Times Like These
Breakout
Learn To Fly
Cheer Up, Boys (Your Makeup is Running)
This is a Call
Stacked Actors
Skin and Bones
Marigold
My Hero
Cold Day in the Sun
But, Honestly
Everlong
Monkey Wrench
All My Life

Encore:
Big Me
Long Road to Ruin
Best of You

Cover

In honour of going to the Foo Fighter's concert, I dug up an old cover of Everlong. This was a while ago and one day I just decided to mess around with Audacity and see what I could come up with. Obviously there is lots of glitches and things that when I listen to, it bugs me a lot, but it was something fun and different to do at the time.

Studying Misfire

So I thought I had a one more day to study than I really did. Not a good idea to confuse Thursday and Wednesday. So I also thought that five chapters meant four. Oh well, time to pull a late nighter and a non stop listening marathon to Journey's Don't Stop Believing (Still going strong in 2008! Though with a different frontman). Jeez that song is so epic! I already feel better just linking to it.

And obviously, in the grand scheme of things there are worst things than not being prepared for an exam...

Target Update

I meant to post this earlier and reevaluate the weight loss target goal. Around the end of February I was at only 185, and was kinda surprised at first because I thought I put in way more effort. On the other hand, I didn't exactly change the diet too much by that point and it was about a pound per week which would be appropriate loss in retrospect. It was also tough because this thing started around Chinese New Year. That was smart.

I dunno if it is realistic or really in line with what I want to do. Currently my weight will show up 182 or so. The goal was in a way set to the extreme to change certain eating habits. I wanted to stop late night snacking, unnecessary junk food purchases, and eating even though I've already full and needed something to jolt that. To an extent that has been done, but I could still improve in this regard.

Damn, I want some KFC...

Crank That

So everyone has probably heard the song "Crank That" from Soulja Boy. Well, anyways I remember being told one of the meanings of the lyrics in the song. Basically, the phrase "Superman that ho". What the hell does it mean? Some time ago, I was told the meaning, but it seemed so ridiculous and unbelievable I discounted it.

Lo and behold, she was right. The meaning can be found here.

Heh, its like this blog became 14A for this post and the last one.

OMG WHY!?

This is probably a blog worth skipping. However, if you are curious...

Think of the worst possible pain/injury that could happen. Now if you're a guy, did it involve your penis? Because I couldn't possibly think of worst anatomic structure to f***ing fracture! If you are brave enough, check out the story...

Update on Target

Regarding Larry on the target weight loss thing, he gets an extra two weeks to finish. So it'd be April 16th . Reason being is he is a bit under the weather and has a bit more weight to lose than me. As for me, the first week has been a big failure. I had actually gained weight thanks to Chinese New Year and deciding that having a Spicy Perogy pizza won't set me back. Time to get on track and schedule a simple routine.

Man, I really hate the treadmill. However, I'm not going to complain about it anymore than that otherwise I'll never want to step on the thing again. Also, our friggin pulse reader doesn't even work. I was going to use it to estimate what speed I should be going. I was going to use the Karvonen (spelling?) formula of 220-age (an alternative apparently is 208-0.7 X age = heart rate max) and start off by going 60-70% of it, depending on comfort level. I figured this formula should work because everytime I've done that heartrate test thing at a pharmacy I always end up somewhere from 55-60 for a resting heart rate, which is about normal. Alas, I have no way of knowing because the treadmill can't keep track. For me, its kind of a big deal because I'm not motivated enough to use a treadmill and use "comfort" as a guide. An electronic heartrate monitor watch starts at about $60 or so. I guess this is time to use that Chinese New Year money...

Also, I need to remake my resume. I resolve to finish that over the weekend. Its probably a good thing that I can't find my current one, as it'll force me to remake one. Just putting this out there so I'll actually go do it. Thats all for now...

The Official Weight Target Post

Starting Feb 2, the official weight target challenge begins. Here are the terms.

The deadline weigh in is on Wednesday, Apr 2, 2008. Larry and I are entering an agreement to lose 10% of our current weight by then. If we both succeed, we pay for our respective share of our season tickets. If one of us fails, he pays for the other's season tickets. If we both fail, we will donate the tickets to friends/charities. According to my kitchen scale, I am 190 lbs. So, I must lose 19 pounds.

I have approximately 8.7 weeks to do this. If I can shed 2.5 pounds per week for 8 weeks I can reach this goal....

The plan? Increase activity and decrease junk food consumption. No fried stuff, no chips, no pop, and definitely no needless late night snacking. I think that in itself will be huge. Increase in use of home gym, primarily the treadmill (shudder). I should probably draft up something more specific but I have a rough outline in my head. I'll aim to run for at least 20 min and hit the bag for a few rounds.

Anyways, if you want a shot at the Esk tickets, give a comment and help keep me accountable.

Motivation

So, this is the deal I'm going to make with Larry. I will have to specify the details with him, but the gist is this: We get season tickets to the Edmonton Eskimos. We of course pay for our own tickets. This time will be different. We're both going to set a target weight and a target time and a maintenance period. If we are able to meet the targets, then we just pay for our own tickets. If one of us doesn't meet it, he has to pay for BOTH tickets. If neither of us make it, NO TICKETS! I have to renew these things by the ed of February, and I don't remember if there is a monetary refund. Nevertheless, maybe we'll either donate them to charity or give them to our friends. If we both fail to meet the target, NO TICKETS!

You are all witnesses. Specifics to follow.

Where the ...?!

Alright, so by now I figured I know where every class could be held in the University. But I was wrong. I looked at my timetable and I have a class at "HC L 2"...

Where the fuck is that???

I think its Hebert Coutts... but thats the Phys. Ed. building and this is for a Finance class. Plus, it'd be real fucking stupid because my class before and after is in Business, so I have a ten minute walk back and forth.... Dammit...
